prostate cancer treatment options - looking on prostate cancer treatment options?

What are the prostate cancer treatment options that you prefer to me to choose?

If you have prostate cancer, there are many important factors to take into account before deciding on a treatment option, such as your age and general health, and the likelihood that the cancer will cause problems for you. You should also think about which side effects you can live with. Some men, for example, can’t imagine living with side effects such as incontinence or impotence. Other men are less concerned about these and more concerned about removing or destroying the cancer.

    here’s a really whacky suggestion…..
..have you thought of discussing this with your GP or medical adviser who unlike the vat majority of repondents here is ttained fro this, knows what they are talking about, knows whatr is available, and knows what is appropriate for the stage your cancer is at. I know it sounds all so much 20th century relying on a medics advice, rahter than a group of anonymous self proclaimed ‘experts’ on somewhere like Yahoo answers, but there are lots of occasions where you are better off going to people who KNOW what they are talking about, rahter than a public forums where people MAY know what they are talking about, but that message may get swamped byt he silly, the ignorant, the wannabe comedians and so on

You have to be involved in any treatment options offered to you by your urologist or oncologist. These will depend on the Gleason stage of your tumour and your age and fitness. At the early stage many prostate cancers are VERY slow growing indeed and some patients are offered the choice of the tumour being monitored only.

Brachytherapy with radioactive implants can be used for localised confined disease.
Targeted radiation can be used on its own or with surgery.
Hormone therapy using surgical or hormone castration can be used when the cancer has spread beyond the prostate.
Finally the prostate can be removed surgically, often together with one of the treatments above.
