Hey everyone, I am on the S.R.C (Student representative Council) at my school which means i help to organise fundraisers for our school and for other organisations. We are planning to have a couple fundraisers to raise money for the "Movember foundation" which is for prostate Cancer.
Do you have any ideas on what activities or things we can do to raise money at our school.
We would like something new that we haven’t done previously, these are some things we have had: BBQ’s, Wacky dress up days, Trash and treasure stalls, number of jelly beans in a jar game…..
Yes all the the money is going straight to the "Movember" thing. =D
any ideas appreciated.
well, i my school we have two guys growing "Mo’s" for "Movember" and they came around into all our classes and got us to sponsor them….give it a try? …not you…get some boys to do it…
throw the sponges game?
Stand some big wooden planks up (big enough to cover a whole body + some) and cut a hole out in the middle, someone sticks their head into the hole and people throw sponges at them.
I’m researching about prostate-health-issues. I Googled some very interesting info. about November being "Movember month."
Someone (way-up-the-line) is sponsoring some fund-raising initiative for the American Prostate foundation during November.
SO FAR, the info. I am collecting is making some connection with men’s mustaches and fund-raising for prostate cancer care.
I want to participate with my l-o-n-g ’stache!
(I thought that SEPTEMBER was National Prostate awareness month; the time during which I had my P.S.A.-level checked.)

Thanks for any valuable input! :-})
What is "Movember-month" (how did that name arise?) and how can I get involved in it’s activities?
Movember is an annual month-long event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November. The event was invented in 1999 by group of Australian males from Adelaide.
They raise tens of thousands of $ each year

We’re having a small wedding with around 75 guests in August, we will have a simple ceremony in a chapel and a get together afterwards on the bay at the resort we will be staying at. Of course there will be great food, a to-die-for cake, a bonfire, drinks and fun all around, do you think people will mind if we skip favors?
I know alot of people make donations and we would LOVE to make a donation to the Alzeimers Assoc. and prostate cancer foundation because my grandfather passed away 6 months ago from both of those illnesses. What do you think?
I could definitely do favors of jordan mints, or some type of seashell something, but I think to my family it would mean more to make a larger donation in my grandfathers name.
Will our guests feel jipped?
We’re having the wedding 1.5 hours from where we live where my whole family (roughly 40 of the 75) will be staying where the reception is so all others have to travel a little bit, will them leaving empty handed be a bad thing?
Yes…I did the same thing. I donated money to the ONE campaign to benefit people with AIDS. What you can do is check with a few of the charities you are interested in and see if there is a way you can purchase items as donations , and give those to your guest. I had purchased "ONE" bracelets and gave them out before the reception , so everyone was wearing them there , it was very touching..my mother passed away in ‘94 from AIDS , so everyone knew how much it meant. Attach a small card that you can print out to each "gift" explaining where it came from , what it means to you , and thanking people for coming. Good Luck!
