Prostate essment Centre - Hospitals of Regina Foundation

Posted by Yuri Urkel on May 29th, 2009 and filed under prostate cancer foundation | No Comments »

When Steve Pillipow was diagnosed with prostate cancer 14 years ago, he feared the worst. “I heard the word cancer and immediately though of death,” says Pillipow. “I thought, when and I going to be gone?”

At that time, prostate cancer was rarely discussed in public, and Pillipow had to navigate his way through the medical system with little cohesive guidance. He would have welcomed a place that had all the information, services, and care he needed to help support him through his treatment and recovery. Now he is thrilled to hear the Hospitals of Regina Foundation is bringing together donors to raise money for a new Prostate essment Centre at the Pasqua Hospital. The Centre, which is currently in the planning stages, will be similar to the Breast essment Centre recently opened at the hospital, thanks in part to HRF donations. According to Dr. Ashok Verma, a radiologist with the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region and one of the driving forces behind improved prostate care, the Prostate essment Centre will be a one stop shop. Patients will have seamless access to diagnosis, treatment referrals, recovery, and resource support.

Posted by Yuri Urkel on May 28th, 2009 and filed under what is prostate cancer | 15 Comments »

my dad was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. What are the survival rates? I've been hearing like 97% if it's caught early. is that true?

It depends on in which stage is his Cancer. Hope, he'll do well. Good luck!

What is a non-side affect treatment for prostate cancer?

Posted by Yuri Urkel on May 28th, 2009 and filed under prostate cancer treatments | 2 Comments »

Honestly, its better you consult a specialist. I really want to help but I don't think I can give better answers than specialist do. Sorry.

good luck

Love is omnipresence, Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Symptom of prostate cancer - waking up to urinate?

Posted by Yuri Urkel on May 28th, 2009 and filed under prostate cancer symptoms | 5 Comments »

I've been told and have now read for myself that getting up several times at night to urinate can be a symptom of prostate cancer. I wake up usually 2 to 4 times a night to pee and am now a bit worried. I don't wake up busting, just needing to pee for 5 or so seconds. This only seems to have started a couple of years ago (before this, I rarely used to pee during the night, but instead would wake up busting). During the day I don't need to pee frequently at all, and definitely wouldn't say that I have a weak bladder.

I'm wondering if maybe it's just because I'm a really light sleeper - often I'll wake up because my mouth is too dry, so I'll then drink water and later on wake up needing to pee. I usually drink a fair bit of water after dinner, but try not to have any within a couple of hours of bed.

I'm not sure if I'm in a high risk category - I'm 25 years old and eat a lot of fruit and veges and virtually no processed foods or take away. I don't mind a drink or ten on the weekend though (nothing during the week).

Without just telling me to go and have a check up, would you say my night peeing could be something to worry about?

Age is a major factor in having a prostate cancer, usually it occurs in men 65 to 80 years of age. Yes, frequent urinating at night is one of prostate cancer's symptoms and it is also urinating with difficulty or having blood in urine.

If you say you are only 25 years old and you drink a lot of water at night, then you are very unlikely to be experiencing symptoms of prosprostatecer. Be alarmed if you have blood in your urine and you experience pain when urinating. There could be an underlying cause that you need to know.
